YTL Cement Berhad has achieved a Group pre-tax profit of RM38.5 million for the period ended 31 December 2000.

The Group turnover increased from RM112.0 million in the period ended 31 December 1999 to RM178.5 million in the period ended 31 December 2000. This represents an increase of RM66.5 million or 59% over the corresponding period. The improvement in turnover is attributable to the stronger cement demand from the construction sector. The Group profit before taxation has increased from RM4.8 million to RM38.5 million as compared to the corresponding period. The increase mainly resulted from the cessation of intense pricing competition amongst the manufacturers.

The Group retained profits and shareholders’ funds as at 31 December 2000 are RM100.3 million and RM260.1 million respectively.
