This accolade was on top of the ISO 9002 certification for excellence in operations and maintenance awarded to YTL Power Services in 1996.

YB Tan Sri Dato’ Francis Yeoh, YTL Group Managing Director
Mr Harald Burchardt and his team at YTL Power Services should be justifiably proud of this achievement; one of several awards they have garnered over the years. You may not know it but YTL Power Services and YTL Power Generation held the record for completing a major overhaul of a gas turbine in the shortest time – only 17 days compared with a world average of 35 days.

I believe that so long as we can operate under the best global practices and provide quality services priced in Ringgit terms to our customers, as a nation, we will remain extremely competitive. As examples, we have within the YTL Group achieved prices that until today rank amongst the lowest in the world:-

·
IPP electricity prices in US$ terms is only between 3 to 4 US cents per kWh
·
The Express Rail Link due for completion early next year, will be built at a cost of only RM 35 million per km. This price will enable Malaysia to provide one of the cheapest fares for an airport link – RM35 or US$9 for a 55 km journey
·
The Nucleus Hospitals project which was built at a cost of only RM300,000 or US$79,000 per bed
·
The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur, which at US$75 per night is undoubtedly the cheapest Ritz Carlton in the world

The state of the Malaysian economy and the impact from a weakening US economy are of great concern to all of us. During such times of uncertainty, let us all mobilise our resources to ensure that Malaysia remains truly competitive for the long term. We have achieved much in the past and by adopting truly global practices and forging strategic alliances with global partners, I am confident we can continue to provide cost effective and quality services to our valued customers.
