YTL Education has taken a stake in Frog, the Yorkshire supplier of learning platform and portal solutions.
YTL Education (UK), which is part of the Malaysian YTL Corporation Berhad Group, is taking a 20 per cent shareholding in Frog to form a strategic alliance to market Frog in Malaysia and South East Asia.
Frog in turn will invest in a joint venture based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and will similarly take a 20 per cent stake.
Frog is used in more than 600 schools, mostly secondary, across 60 per cent of local authorities in the UK and this is expected to grow during the next 12 months.
Frog said its focus is based on creating engagement through creativity and making software fun.
"Frog is delighted to have the endorsement of a major global corporation like YTL, and is looking forward to working with an internationally recognised partner", said Gareth Davies, managing director of Frog.
"International expansion through a Joint Venture business will allow Frog to capture growing international interest while allowing Frog UK to remain focussed on UK schools."
Davies added: "Frog are finding a lot of international interest, and we fully recognise that this is entirely due to the quality of our product and service in the UK. We do not intend to take our eyes off the ball in England; in fact, this investment allows us to accelerate our UK plans."
Dato' Yeoh Seok Hong, executive director of YTL, added: "We believe Frog's learning platform will complement the suite of services currently being developed for the YTL group's 4G wireless network which will be rolled-out across Malaysia later this year.
"We fully expect that schools in Malaysia, like those in the UK, will benefit from the innovative learning solutions that Frog has developed and are very happy to be sharing the journey into its future."
