DIscover Kuala Lumpur: A Sneak Expedition Into The City

Dato' Syed Mohd Razif Al Yahya, Managing Director of Travel Compute, Noormah Mohd Noor, CEO of ERL, Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, Executive Chairman of ERL, YB Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Musa Yusof, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Tuan Syed Azhar Syed Nadzir, Group CEO of Elang Wah Sdn Bhd and YM Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, Group CEO of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad during the launch of the Discover Kuala Lumpur package.

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 June 2019

It is always a treat to be able to spend a day or two in a new country but if you're pressed for time, the Discover Kuala Lumpur package may present the perfect avenue to experience the capital city of Malaysia.

The package is a collaboration between Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) and KL Hop-On Hop-Off. It includes a KLIA Ekspres Return Ticket and a round trip on the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus. Priced at RM65 for children between ages two and 12, and RM140 for adults, it is the quickest way to experience the city for transiting passengers with at least eight hours of waiting time at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA & KLIA2). The package is also an ideal way for first time visitors to Kuala Lumpur to experience a flexible city tour at their own pace.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia YB Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi launched Discover Kuala Lumpur today at Pusat Pelancongan Malaysia (MaTiC). Noormah Mohd Noor, Chief Executive Officer of ERL noted, "KLIA Ekspres is always looking at ways to provide better value for our customers through the various collaborative initiatives, and Discover Kuala Lumpur is one of the many offerings that we have planned out for 2019. We are confident that with the Discover Kuala Lumpur initiative, more tourists will be able to explore the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur even within a short window."

Chief Executive Officer of Elang Wah Sdn Bhd, Tuan Syed Azhar Syed Nadzir said, “The demanding and thoughtful post-globalization era has contributed to drastic changes in the public transport system. In this sophisticated era, modern transport systems are increasingly affecting the lives of the people. Hence, the existence of KL Hop On Hop Off in Kuala Lumpur is to facilitate tourism industry travel. This is in line with the objective of Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMY2020). We always offer the best packages and services for tourists. With this collaboration, we are confident of changing the future of the tourism industry.”

The Discover Kuala Lumpur initiative is also supported by Malaysia Airports in their effort to promote inbound tourism and easy connection into the city. By offering this package, their transiting passengers have an added option of making a quick visit to the city, with the hope of enticing them to make Malaysia their next holiday destination. Depending on the time available before their next flight, Discover Kuala Lumpur's flexibility allows visitors to disembark from the bus to savour local delicacies that Malaysia is famous for, visit historical and popular landmarks in the city or even buy souvenirs.

The tour, conducted in English, will ply two routes – the Garden Route and the City Route which will take about two hours each depending on the traffic conditions. It operates on the "hop on, hop off" approach allowing participants of the tour to get off and on the bus at any stop they choose within 24 hours of their voucher redemption.

The Garden Route
Upon arrival from the airport on KLIA Ekspres, tourists can hop on the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus at stop number 16 outside the main entrance of KL Sentral Station. The Garden Route takes tourists to 15 locations starting from the National Museum, and the route covers Perdana Botanical Garden and KL Bird Park as well as historical sites such as the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Jamek Mosque and Kampung Baru, the oldest Malay settlement in Kuala Lumpur before returning to KL Sentral.

If the tourists decide to extend their trip to see the other side of Kuala Lumpur, they can hop on the City Route at the Bukit Bintang Interchange Station (stop number 01). However, the City Route is recommended for tourists with more than 10-hour transit.

The City Route
Besides Bukit Bintang, the City Route will take tourists to 11 other major urban attractions including the world’s tallest twin towers, the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower, where one of the biggest and oldest man-made forest park is located. If their time permits, tourists will also be able to do some shopping at the famous Chinatown known as Petaling Street among the locals and Bukit Bintang, which is a known shopping haven for tourists from all walks of life, ranging from the high-end brands to local-made souvenirs.

Noormah added that the tour will complement efforts to fulfil the Visit Malaysia 2020 target to attract 30 million international tourists. YB Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi had recently announced that Tourism Malaysia is upping promotions for the landmark campaign in order to bring in some RM100 billion in tourist receipts to the country.

Discover Kuala Lumpur packages can be purchased online via the KLIA Ekspres website and app, as well as the self-service kiosks at KLIA, KLIA2 and KL Sentral.

Typically the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus runs between 9am and 6pm daily, with its last tour departing from its pick-up point at 5pm.
