Born in 1954, Tan Sri Dato' Francis Yeoh Sock Ping studied at Kingston University, UK, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Civil Engineering and was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 2004. He became the Managing Director of YTL Corporation Bhd Group in 1988 which under his stewardship, has grown from a single listed entity into a force comprising six listed companies, worth USD$9 billion today with 10 million customers in 3 continents. The YTL Group’s core businesses are ownership and management of regulated utilities and other infrastructural assets in three continents.
He is a Founder Member of the Malaysian Business Council and The Capital Markets Advisory Council. He is also a member of The Nature Conservancy Asia Pacific Council, the Asia Business Council and Trustee of the Asia Society. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of London Business School, Wharton School and Insead.
He was ranked by both Fortune Magazine and Business Week Magazine as Asia’s 25 Most Powerful and Influential Business Personalities. He won the inaugural Ernst and Young’s Master Entrepreneur in Malaysia and CNBC Asia Pacific recently named him Malaysia CEO of the Year.
He was appointed as member of Barclays Asia-Pacific Advisory Committee in 2005. In 2006, he was awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
His global recognition goes further with his appointment as Chairman for South East Asia of the International Friends of the Louvre in 2008. Recently, he received a prestigious professional accolade when made a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers in London.
Tan Sri Francis married Puan Sri Dato' Paduka Rosaline in 1982 and they have five children.
