Montoya dines with family and friends at his favourite restaurant in KL

Yeoh with Juan Pablo Montoya and Connie

Kuala Lumpur, 16 March 2004

Before temperatures rise at the “Hottest Race in the World”, Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya whizzed down to Kuala Lumpur’s Bintang Walk to dine at his favourite restaurant in town with his close friend, YTL chief Tan Sri Francis Yeoh.

Together with his lovely wife Connie as well as his parents, Pablo and Libia, Montoya enjoyed a cosy meal in the private room at Shook! restaurant in Starhill.

Montoya likes Japanese cuisine while Connie prefers pasta, which causes one of them to compromise when they need to choose a restaurant to dine in. Fortunately, the couple gets to indulge in their favourite meals at Shook!, as the restaurant offers a wide ranging menu from its four kitchens – the Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Western Grill.

The Montoyas rate Shook! as the “best restaurant in town” for the variety in the menu and the ambience. Last year alone, the couple visited the restaurant three times during their stay in Malaysia in conjunction with the grand prix then.

During dinner, Montoya, a known teetotaller whose favourite drink is said to be orange juice, commented that he might go for something “a little bit stronger” if he wins the championship. The BMW-Williams driver is currently on the fifth spot on the drivers’ championship after the first leg of the season in Australia.

As the party was leaving after a thoroughly enjoyable meal, patrons at the restaurant recognised the driver and broke into applause, cheering on Montoya for the upcoming race this weekend. Over the sounds of clapping, someone even shouted out, “Beat Schumacher!” to encourage Montoya.

The motorsport celebrity acknowledged the attention and even obliged with some autographs and posed for some photographs with his adoring fans.
