A feast for the senses at the Village

One of the most dramatically designed outlets in Starhill Gallery is the Village Bar with its variety of dazzling ethnic pendant lamps and pillars of glass bottles.

The Star Online, 12 July 2005

A RICH, unique culinary experience awaits diners at the new Feast Village of the revamped Starhill Gallery in Jalan Bukit Bintang.?

The new gastronomy space offers a choice of 13 fine restaurants designed around the concept of a rustic multi-ethnic village.?

The luxurious dining concept stands in place of the former Tang’s, which was vacated last year.?

The Feast Village is accessible through Starhill Gallery’s main doors as well as the Time Tunnel linking it with the adjoining JW Marriott Hotel.?

“The unusual effects created by the walls of mirrored glass lighted by thousands of twinkling, coloured lights will grab the hotel guests’ attention,” said YTL Corporation Bhd managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh during a media briefing and tour on Friday.?

“They will have to move slowly through the link where they’ll suddenly see a sign announcing the Feast Village. It will be a pleasant discovery for the guests.”?

Yeoh said the Feast Village has some of the most dramatically designed restaurants in town to offer diners a unique ambience to go with the fine food.

“We have an amazing collection of fine restaurants,” he said.

“With my engineering background, I can appreciate the uniqueness and complexity of the work behind the designing of these spaces. We hope the Feast Village will contribute to the unique attractions in Kuala Lumpur.”

The total floor area of the Feast Village is 46,300 sq ft and can accommodate 1,058 diners. The design was under the direction of celebrated Japanese firm Design Spirits Co Ltd.

Among the outlets here is Fisherman’s Cove, headed by the same chefs of the restaurant located in the exclusive Pangkor Laut Resort, also owned by the YTL Corporation Bhd. It offers fusion-styled, elegant seafood dishes served in a houseboat and bamboo shed-styled dining room.

Famous Teochew Chinese restaurant Pak Loh brings a touch of authentic Hong Kong cuisine to the city, while the Luk Yu Tea House offers nostalgic old-world Chinese ambience combined with contemporary-styled dim sum and fine Chinese tea.

Korean BBQ KoRyo Won makes its debut in Kuala Lumpur, as does Jim Thompson with My Thai.

Starhill Gallery’s Shook! will continue to charm guests with its open kitchens serving Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Western cuisines.

Other outlets here are the Village Bar; Jake’s Charbroil Steak; The Bakery Moments from Norway; Vansh, an offshoot of Indian restaurant Rang Mahal in Singapore; Indonesian-Malaysian restaurant Enak; Lebanese oulet Tarbush; and Sentidos Tapas offering Spanish food.

In the Relish floor of Starhill, two restaurants are making their debut outside their home countries – Jogoya from Taiwan and Gonbei from Japan.

The Feast Village will officially open on July 31 although the restaurants are now open from noon to 1am daily.
