Consumers across Malaysia can now experience blazing fast Internet data speeds as Yes commercially launched its 4G LTE services with an impressive 85% nationwide population coverage. The 4G brand under YTL Communications is also the first mobile operator in the country to introduce Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) capability for high-definition, crystal clear calls. At the same time the Yes Altitude, the newest high quality Android device developed by Yes, was unveiled as the most affordable VoLTE smartphone in the Malaysian market, allowing more consumers to access high speed LTE internet.
The all-new Yes 4G LTE plans and Altitude smartphone were launched by the Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, alongside YTL Corporation Bhd's chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Yeoh Tiong Lay. Also present were YTL's managing director Tan Sri Datuk Dr Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, YTL Communications executive directors Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong and Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng, as well as chief executive officer Wing K. Lee.
Speaking about the Yes 4G LTE network, Wing K Lee, the CEO of YTL Communications shared that the network is the most advanced at the moment because it is built on top of the existing Yes 4G Broadband network which already has nationwide reach in Malaysia.
"We started the journey with 4G Mobile Broadband and are now excited to complete the journey with the launch of 4G LTE together with the country's first VoLTE service. We are proud to help Malaysia leapfrog to a high income economy through the provision of these new services," he said.
YTL Communications have been working with the best of best in the industry such as Samsung, Qualcomm, China Mobile, Google and Elitecore Technologies to develop innovative, high quality and affordable LTE solutions and products, focusing on broadband coverage, speed and affordability.
Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said that the new Yes 4G LTE network would dramatically change the landscape of mobile services throughout the country with their all-IP, high capacity 4G Internet service which supports the ability to carry out concurrent activities such as downloading movies whilst making calls over the new VoLTE network.
“As we all know, information, communications and technology are vital to the development of any community and country. The benefits to the economy of having high speed Internet widely available are real and tangible. Hence, from the start, it has always been our commitment to provide equal Internet access to all Malaysians in order to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural communities and improve the quality of life for all Malaysians,” Tan Sri Francis Yeoh further elaborated.
Officiating the launch, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said, “I would like to congratulate YTL for being the FIRST telco to launch VoLTE nationally in Malaysia. All these augurs well for the nation’s future, and this will certainly accelerate the achievement of the Government’s broadband initiatives to increase national broadband penetration and help reduce the cost of devices and utilization charges to make it more affordable to all consumers. This will also further help to close the digital divide between urban and rural communities.”
Datuk Said noted that YTL was the first company in Malaysia to develop its own Yes 4G LTE handset and that tied in with the Government’s encouragement of the development of new technology. Datuk Said also spoke encouragingly on future hopes of similar projects to be brought into Malaysia to encourage and facilitate new technological developments and innovations to bring Malaysia to the forefront of technology and establish Malaysia as a hub for ICT-based industry in Asia. This would then have the effect of bringing down the cost of devices, thereby further lowering the barrier of entry and making it more affordable for all Malaysians to have cheaper and faster internet access in Malaysia.
Datuk Said finished by congratulating YTL for their “commitment to bring Internet to all Malaysians so that as a nation we will be able to enjoy the benefits of a truly connected digital age.”
