KUALA LUMPUR: The Yeoh family, by way of global conglomerate YTL Corp, has funded RM33 million for the opening of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy and Law at one of the most esteemed and prestigious British universities, the King's College London.

The RM33 million gift will establish, through endowment, three new posts in The Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London, a Chair at RM18.1 million and two lectureships at RM7.75 million each, as well as 16 full LLM scholarships of RM155,050 each.

''I read law at King's College and when they invited us to do this, we jumped on board. It took less than a year for the collaboration to come together,'' said Datuk Mark Yeoh Seok Kah, executive director of YTL Corp.

''YTL through the YTL foundation has scholarships for deserving students but this is the first scholarship dedicated for Malaysian students to go to King's.

''Right now King's has the world's 16th best law school and it is our vision that it will be the first one day,'' he said at the inauguration of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre of Politics, Philosophy and Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, here, last Thursday.

Second Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan was present at the ceremony.
